My name is Richard Brooks, my friends call me Rick and I invite you to call me Rick as well. I have a love for woodworking that goes back to my high school woodshop class and my dad's back porch "shop". I fell in love with creating...with making. Sadly as sometimes happens, life pulled me in other directions and I moved away from the hobby for many years. In 2019 my dad lost his fight with cancer. My wife, my kids, and I had moved away a few years earlier so I wasn't with my dad at the end but I spent a lot of time with him on the phone. We talked about anything and everything that he wanted. Of course one of the topics would always be "Do you remember when we built that..." It was those conversations that got me thinking... remembering... and ultimately pulling me back to the hobby I once loved so much. After he passed I inherited many of my dad's tools. It took several trips back home to get those tools back to my home shop here in Georgia, but it was those tools and those memories that brought The Weekend Woodshop into being. Since getting back into the craft I have also discovered that I enjoy designing new projects. I have learned how to use SketchUp design software and like to create plans for the projects that I make so that you can build these projects for yourself.
